Dear Carmen,

I don´t know whether you have read my three articles on Catalonia. The link is in my letter. I would encourage you to first read them. I don´t think I dismiss the political side of the conflict as you seem to imply. I think the Canadian case is certainly very interesting and we should learn from it. As far as I understand it, it was very beneficial for Toronto and detrimental for Montreal because many companies left. We will try to avoid this in Spain. Barcelona should gain back the 2000 companies that have moved their headquarters and have done so both for economic and political reasons. As for condemning hate speech and exclusionary and supremacist language. I am all on your side. And I think it should be condemned from both sides in the conflict. I also agree with you that this needs to be resolved politically and with a common understanding and that the rest of Spaniards should embrace rather than reject the Catalans. As I said, read my articles, especially part 3 of my trilogy on this point.
